install windows xp pro sp2 on Amilo Li 1705

Postby TamaJacobina » Sun Apr 15, 2007 3:07 pm

Hello everyone. Im trying to install winxp pro sp2 on my li 1705 because the windows vista basic that he came with make him really slow... Anyway i had no problem finishing the installation but i have no drivers except drivers for the mousepad :/ the recovery disk has drivers only for vista basic and also does the webpage of FS. Can anybody help me?

Thank you all for your time

PS. I tried to use desk update after downloading hotfix (as I read in another post in this forum) but I get the message that no drivers are available.

audio driver for Li1705 with xp sp2

Postby irishp » Thu May 17, 2007 7:27 pm

HELP!!!! i have uninstalled vista from my amilo Li1705 to make it perform better (as recommended by many people on many sites) and everything is working much much better - faster, and less memory consumption - but the speakers don't work and the control panel is saying there is no audio device found.
i believe that someone has the necessary drivers, but in german, so i can't seem to access them (new to this so not too sure how to sort it all out!!)
can anyone please please help me as i now have a laptop with no sound!!!!
thank you all for your help

for XP you need the Windows Update KB888111
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/Downl ... nt=Realtek ALC880 Audio Codec
if you have HD Audio. (Usually all current notebooks have that).

before you install sound or modem drivers, you probably need the KB888111 update for WinXP SP2:
http://tinyurl.com/yvpaet

WLAN: Atheros AR5005G
http://tinyurl.com/2645np

Grafik: VIA Chrome9 HC IGP
http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... bCatID=182

Sound: VIA High Definition Audio
http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/HDA_V330C.zip

Modem: Conexant Soft Data Fax Modem
http://www.conexant.com/support/files/HSFac97_WinXP.zip

I dont have this notebook so I cannot guarantee that these drivers work. Just try and let us know

I have one of these with Vista Home Basic and I really hate the slow speed and my lack of vista knowledge. I have tried a few times to install XP Pro but each time after formatting the hard drive and starting the XP installation it is not very long before I get a 'blue screen of death' syndrome. I came to the conclusion that maybe there is something in this notebook that was not intended to work with XP but after reading through this forum I now believe that XP is a possibility for me. Any ideas why I might be getting the blue screen when trying to install XP ??

Thanks Dave

you must have an XP-CD with integrated Servicepack 2.

Take also note of the BIOS and hardware reset as described in the Hardware FAQs here in the forum.

Note that brightness control is not present in the standard via chrome graphics driver on xp.

the screen goes on low brightness when on battery, and high when on mains, and I can't find any way to make it bright on battery.

if anyone got tips, pls share.

here are the drivers I used.

here's how I installed Microsoft Windows XP with SP2 on the Amilo Li 1705:

0 on slowass vista, download XP drivers to d:\drivers\
1 install xp like normal
1.1 disable automatic updates for now, completely.
2 install VIA Hyperion drivers -> reboot
3 install WLAN drivers -> reboot
4 install HD Audio -> ignore the new hardware detected things -> reboot
5 Start\Windows Update -> first install the update updates, then the 3 following updates (we really need an SP3...) might need a reboot after that
5.1 WindowsUpdate -> it should show 2 hardware updates, HD Audio and Ethernet LAN. install both.

I haven't tried the modem to see if it works, but it shows fine on the Devide Manager.

Can someone with XP installed on the Amilo Li1705 confirm that their sound is working? And which driver they installed?

I'm currently dual-booting with Vista and XP, and would ideally like to format the Vista partition and continue with XP since this laptop doesnt seem to be Vista ready. However, each time I try to install the ViaArena drivers I get the 'we cant find the HD audio device' message.

Ive already hotfixed with KB888111, and am using XP SP2 (with no sound).

p.s Ive tried 330c, 330f, the latest one dated december and a number of others, none work!

If the computer is running slow, I would also consider other software installations that might bring the computer down, for example some antivirus software or security packs make the computer so slow, check all programs running, if they are really important. Maybe you can just switch some off. I do not think that it is a problem with the operating system. Find the correct configuration.
