install windows xp pro sp2 on Amilo Li 1705

All problems with windows and windows drivers.

If you are referring to the standard Vista installation, there is no amount of tweaking that will make it run as fast as XP, its just not possible. Even super computers running XP outperform Vista every time. I have a number of games that run perfectly with XP with this hardware, the same games crawl on Vista!

Its outrageous that Microsoft wont allow their cheaper AND faster operating system to come preinstalled with new computers. Sure Vista is more user friendly than XP but this doesnt amount to much when I am not getting to most out of the equipment that I paid for because of their marketing strategy, which in the short term can only benefit Microsoft.

Having read a number of articles online, it is clear that many people are having problems with their sound on this laptop who are trying to run XP. Anyone had any luck installing HD Audio drivers with their XP installation on the Amilo Li1705 and any workarounds for the 'We cant find HD Audio Device' message?

if you are a gamer, which is very nice ;-), probably you get better results with xp, nevertheless I have seen Vista running really quick, much quicker than my xp home, and my computer is not that old,. Ok, mine is a pentium 4 and I have seen Vista on an intel quad(one of the cheap quads). I have also seen a game on the Vista I am telling and it was pretty good, so I do not know.
Windows 2000(which is a real good operating system) was already in the market(during my computer degree), and people at the uni were still saying that comands OS like Dos/unix were much better, realible and faster , and in a way it was. But you always see this pattern, you cannot compare one thing with the other. I don´t know if you remember when xp came to market. That was the worst one. Nobody, absolutely nobody wanted it, because all that crap about data being kept by microsoft, old programs not working.
Once I change to Vista I will try to keep a my old computer with xp until I know I can manage only with vista, and the same for linux. Try Ubuntu it is great, maybe your games and programs do not work, but it is still great.

Its ok now. An extra Gig of RAM and the new SP1 RC has tamed the beast! Comes highly recommended

I never truly wanted to make the switch but performance was better when I installed XP. The difference now is minimal, and vista is so much easier to use and relatively 'bug' free in terms of having to deal with error messages yourself.

If you are thinking of making the switch on this thread try downloading Vista SP1 and do make sure you have AT LEAST 2GB of RAM installed (this is critical in my experience). The upgrade in terms of RAM is just too cheap at something like 20 EUROS, how many beers will that buy you?? Time to put that XP installation CD in the bin...

If someone doesn't like Vista why wouldn't install XP.
A lot of us still using XP and I can't see any reason (except Micro$oft) not to use it. Fujitsu-Siemens should made drivers for products they are selling !!!

because software and hardware develops parallel. Of course it is also a cuestion of money, but thats not bad. If microsoft wants money, fsc wants money, all of us want money and noone would do a job that is not profitable, imagine if you loose money. Some people develop their own drivers. you know the product they are selling you, if you don´t like do not have to buy.

liquid_ wrote:Can someone with XP installed on the Amilo Li1705 confirm that their sound is working? And which driver they installed?

I'm currently dual-booting with Vista and XP, and would ideally like to format the Vista partition and continue with XP since this laptop doesnt seem to be Vista ready. However, each time I try to install the ViaArena drivers I get the 'we cant find the HD audio device' message.

Ive already hotfixed with KB888111, and am using XP SP2 (with no sound).

p.s Ive tried 330c, 330f, the latest one dated december and a number of others, none work!

I have the same problem... someone I have resolved? help me please

I have installed KB888111WXPSP2.exe
I have installed the driver of the package but he writes " we can't find Hd audio device "
I have installed all the driver of the situated one viarena but he always writes " we can't find hd audio device "
I can resolve in some way?

ok, the KB888111 is already not installed properly!

You may integrate he KB888111 into your windows setup CD (Servicepack 2 needed!!) and install windows again.
Should work then. Make also sure that you have the right language version of the KB888111.

- take a genuine windows xp cd (no revocery version!)
- download the KB888111_forSP2 in the language version of your windows cd
- download XP-ISO-Builder (you can switch the language to English after installation) ((nLite doesnt work properly in Vista))
- integrate the SATA drivers, the KB888111 and the servicepack 2 (if not already included) into the windows cd
- burn the image and install windows

now you should have an audio device ready displayed in the device manager. Now you can install the audio drivers.

the thing is, that you must have the KB888111 installed properly to be able to install the sound driver.

The KB888111 can be downloaded here
http://tinyurl.com/yvpaet

you can try to reinstall the KB888111
or you can integrate the hotfix to your setuo CD with XP-ISO-Builder and reinstall windows.
Of course, you must backup your files first.
