Hi,

I am not sure whether that would work. At least you need the same type of Windows (Home or Pro).

You only have to integrate 3rd party drivers into your windows CD if you have a non-FSC windows cd and a RAID- or SATA controller in your notebook.

The fsc website is currently down. So I cannot see which controller you have.

You probably have an Intel SATA Controller. Windows XP does not have SATA or RAID controller drivers included by default. So it wouldn't recognize any hard drives when you want to install Windows. Therefore you must have the SATA drivers integrated.
If you have a recovery CD that came with the notebook, you dont have to worry about it. The drivers are already included and everything is fine.
If you use a 'native' Windows CD or a Recovery CD that does not have the sata drivers included, you must add them to your windows CD to be able to install windows.

If you want to make sure and want to have your Recovery CD back, ask FSC for it:

Usually you can buy one there if you tell them your serial number etc. It should not be that expensive.

I'm in the same situation with a friends amilo pro v#, but unfortunately probably have less computing knowledge, we to have lost the product recovery and drivers/utilities discs !!

I've got hold of a different fsc recovery disc and indeed when I try run the setup it calls for missing SATA controllers and asks for a floppy, of which I obviously cant do.

I've been on the fsc site on my PC, found and downloaded the relevant bits and pieces in order to run a 'native' recovery disc. I tried to copy the fsc disc to my PC and add the downloaded files to it, however when I try the combined disc in the laptop nothing reads???

PC World seems to think the fsc discs may be quite pricey and I can't get hold of fsc (without trying the premium phone number that is). I'm reluctant to have an expensive chat and order the discs if then I find out something else is wrong with the laptop.

like I said I'm not a computer genius, so any help no matter how mundane (even if I've copied something wrong) would be appreciated.

you can convert the recovery disk to be a normal windows cd and integrate the drivers with xp-iso-builder. Please download XP-Iso-Builder and take note of the tutorial here
