Some questions about 3438 and GPU temp.

Postby Whakka » Sun Apr 22, 2007 11:11 pm

I've googled some about it, and most threads in different forums point to that my GPU temp is way to high, without any OC.

In idle mode, my GPU is ~65C, wich is about 15C more of avarage from what I've seen from here and there. Today I tried to play C&C3, and within a minute or two of actual gameplay, I hit around 100-105C.

As stated before, I havent OC:d or anything like that, Im running my 6800 with 39.60 flash and 84.25 drivers, wich is what I've read on laptopvideo forums is the best atm.

So, some of my main questions are:
Is the temp way to high as I suspect?
What can cause this?
Im I using one of the best/good/recommended drivers, or are there any better ones?

Anyway, hope you can help me with this.

Best regards - Whakka

Way too high, over 80C is excessive.
Probably a bad contact between the GPU and heat sink. The drivers have just a small effect, perhaps a couple of degrees at worst.
You need new thermal pads or copper plate to get the heat out of the GPU.
A totally dust-clogged cooling system may also cause overheating, but brobably not as much. My idle is 59-60 and max about 81C.

Thanks for the quick answer!
Is there any specific model of thermal/copper sinks that I need? Are they hard to come by?

Try babelfish the german section - I think there's info about it.
For example http://www.amilo-forum.de/htopic,14433,kupfer.html
