TRIVILIN'S ATI CATALYST 6.4 WIDESCREEN MOD TUTORIAL!
This tutorial is specifically for Uniwill 258KA0 / AMILO A1630 laptops. Modding for other laptops is described at the bottom.

RECOMMENDED: Print this tutorial and fully read before continuing.
NOTE: This tutorial is intended only for Catalyst version 6.4.

--------PROCEDURE--------

01. Exit ATI Panel from your system tray.
02. Go to Add / Remove programs and remove ALL ATI Stuffs, beginning with ATI Uninstall Utility.
03. Run Driver Cleaner Pro, select multiple, and add ALL ATI, uninstall
04. Restart Your Computer
05. Once XP reloads, cancel Hardware Wizard
06. extract ATI's Catalyst, this will also automatically launch setup
07. cancel setup as soon as ATI Setup Program allows you to
08. Use DHModTool3 and patch your Catalyst, wait until process is done, and do not start Setup when it asks you to
09. Navigate to: ATI Setup folder > Driver > 2KXP_INF and replace inf files (C2_31959.inf and CX_31959.inf) with the ones you downloaded
10. Start ATI setup from your ATI setup folder and Express install. Click continue anyway if it asks you to.

PS FURTHER NOTES FOR MODDING CATALYST FOR OTHER LAPTOPS
If you got a laptop with an ATI graphics card but not necessarily the one mentioned here, you can do your own inf mods. Download all files included in this tutorial (except the inf files), follow above tutorial and stop after step 08, then do the following.
01. Navigate to your INF folder and open C2_31959.inf
02. Under [ATI.Mfg] subject heading, find which ati2mtag corresponds to you. This is usually something like ati2mtag_M10.
03. Copy the text for your ati2mag (in my case I would copy ati2mtag_M10)
04. Scroll all the way down and click once anywhere in that area
05. Press CTRL + F and search for your atimtag upwards until you come to a subject heading that reads something like [ati2mtag_M10_SoftwareDeviceSettings]
NOTE: make sure not to be confuse by other mtags that have similar names, for example [ati2mtag_M10GL_SoftwareDeviceSettings] in my case. My mtag is NOT GL.
06. Then you see an area under your mtag subject heading that has a bunch of pair numbers separated by commas. In my case they were :

HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD1, %REG_BINARY%,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,60,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,75,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,85,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,60,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,75,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,85,07,20,05,76,00,00,01,00,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD2, %REG_BINARY%,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,75,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,85,12,80,07,20,00,00,00,60,12,80,07,20,00,00,00,75,12,80,07,20,00,00,00,85,12,80,09,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,09,60,00,00,00,00,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD3, %REG_BINARY%,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,75,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,85,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,60,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,75,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,85,14,40,09,00,00,00,00,60,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,60,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,75
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD4, %REG_BINARY%,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,85,16,00,10,24,00,00,01,00,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,30,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,85,08,00,04,80,00,00,00,60,10,24,04,80,00,00,00,60,10,24,06,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,06,00,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD5, %REG_BINARY%,12,80,07,68,00,00,00,60,14,00,10,50,00,00,00,60

THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT! If you edit this right, then you got a good chance at fixing your problem for whatever resolution you want. These numbers read like this
....85,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,75,12,80,08,00...
...85hz 1280 x 800, 60hz 1280 x 800, 75hz 1280 x 800...

I modified the above numbers to this for each file (C2_31959.inf and CX_31959.inf):

HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD1, %REG_BINARY%,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,60,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,75,07,20,04,80,00,00,00,85,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,60,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,75,07,20,05,76,00,00,00,85,07,20,05,76,00,00,01,00,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD2, %REG_BINARY%,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,75,08,48,04,80,00,00,00,85,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,75,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,85,12,80,08,10,00,00,00,60,12,80,08,10,00,00,00,00,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD3, %REG_BINARY%,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,75,13,60,07,68,00,00,00,85,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,60,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,75,13,60,10,24,00,00,00,85,14,40,09,00,00,00,00,60,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,60,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,75
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD4, %REG_BINARY%,16,00,10,24,00,00,00,85,16,00,10,24,00,00,01,00,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,30,19,20,10,80,00,00,00,85,08,00,04,80,00,00,00,60,10,24,04,80,00,00,00,60,10,24,06,00,00,00,00,60,12,80,06,00,00,00,00,60
HKR,, DALNonStandardModesBCD5, %REG_BINARY%,12,80,08,00,00,00,00,60,14,00,10,50,00,00,00,60

Then continue with PROCEDURE steps 09 and 10.

Overall:
-Jot down on a piece of paper which resolution you want and at what frequency.
-Figure out which DALNonStandardMode you need to mod by interpreting the numbers. In my example, I only needed to change DALNonStandardModes 2 and 5. All other DALNonStandardModes werent in the ball park of my native resolution.
-REMEMBER! Do not repeat a setting within each DALNonStandardMode. For example, DONT have "...60,12,80,08,00..." (without quotation marks) twice within a DALNonStandardMode.
-It helps if you have a backup of your original inf files. Often times you make minor mistakes on your inf files. If your inf settings dont work upon installation and restart, windows will allow more resolutions but not necessarily the one you want. If this is the case, follow procedure, take a another stab at your inf files, and finish procedure.
