Amilo 3438G Common Graphics Fault ?  Topic is solved

Postby M0RT » Sun Apr 29, 2007 2:49 pm

My machine has just come back from a warranty repair (to resolve a problem I had using an external monitor) only to break down as soon as I put it under any load. Basically whilst playing a game the system bluescreened and shut down. On reboot the display is heavily corrupted right from the initial Fujitsu Siemens BIOS splash screen. I can only get it to boot by going into safe mode or choosing VGA from the 'F8 menu' and even then its practically unusable (although I've managed to burn a DVD backup of personal data)

According to the paperwork for the recent repair it has had a new mobo, audio card, gfx card & external vga port. My theory is that it's either a faulty component (graphics card ?) or faulty fitting.

I've also come across the same problem here and here (The screen corruption in the photos in virtually identical to mine)

I'll be ringing the repair centre first thing on Monday but would appreciate any thoughts or ideas in the meantime !

Regards,

Bruce

So you're saying this happened immediately after you had it back from repair too ?

I'm thinking there is either a bad batch of gfx cards about or the repair centre aren't taking enough care with the HSF.

Do you mind me asking how you paid for your laptop and warranty ?

Hi Mort

yep, this happened 10 days after i received it back from a warranty repair for a graphics problem

its OK if i let windows drive the graphics but if i install nvidia drivers, be it the driver that shipped with it or the latest forceware from laptopvideo2go the system will not boot, after the windows XP load screen it goes black then slowly comes silver with coloured pixels sprayed everywhere then eventually white and can only be hard shutdown... boot to safe mode and uninstall the nvidia driver and it boots Ok but with clunky graphics performance as with windows driving the 6800 G0

this was my original problem

topic,454,-3438G-freze-black-scrn-for-a-second-silent-buttn-resolves.html

The laptop and warranty were purchased via a company scheme

whats the HSF ?

Regards

Iain

Heat Sink Fan (the graphics cooler) I suspect the 3438G suffers from barely adequate cooling and it seems too much like coincidence that this happens.

Check your PMs !
