Postby pipposanta » Tue May 02, 2006 4:43 pm

Hi,
I have an Amilo m3438g with a pentium M 1.6 ghz CPU. In the future will I be able to upgrade for example to 2 ghz or I will have temperature problems? Is simple upgrade a CPU?

You can upgrade up to 2,26 GHz - that's the fastest Pentium M with 533 MHz FSB (Pentium M 780).

There shouldn't be any issues with temperature because the TDP is the same, some users of the German forum used a pinmod to overclock a Pentium M 725 to 2,26 GHz - they didn't report any problems.

No idea - but it should always be possible via e.g. ebay.

Hi all.
To upgrade the Amilo 3438G CPU I have to find a Socket 479 cpu right? Is it possible to mount Core Duo CPU's?

Uhm... and so... what kind of CPU's, and what kind of socket? Is it difficult to open the 3438G?

All "Pentium M" will fit. But if I were you I would buy a 533FSB cpu. The fastest you can get right now is a 2,26 Ghz CPU.
(I have a 1,7Ghz 400FSB (~120USD) CPU overlcoaked to 2,26 533FSB at stock voltage). This "saved" me around 200 bucks.
And yea, it is really easy to open the m3438.

Ok so you did the pin modify?

Generally, I can mount all Pentium-M with Socket 478 right?

I have the M740 1.73Ghz FSB 533 and just buyed 2x512MB SoDIMM PC4200 (533mhz) from TwinMOS.

Where can I find detailed instructions (maybe with pictures) on how to open the amilo?

Thanks a lot :-)

I contacted INTEL. They told me the Socket is 479, but Pentium-M have 478pins.

So this means that we can upgrade to 780 CPU from a 760, with Intel 915PM chipset, right?
