hello,

my system is: ubuntu 7.04 with KDE

i have a amilo a 1667 ex and the following dvd device:

HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N


with this driver:

ide-cdrom version 4.61



everytime when i try to play a dvd it doesnt work and dmesg tells me this:

has anybody an idea how i can bring my dvd device to show me my dvds?

I don't think it is a Linux problem.
Is it possible to boot from CD/DVD? (Or only DVDs not working?)

well the deviced workes under windows fine.

i installed ubuntu from dvd, so it worked in the past. ;)

i can open the dvd in filebrowser, but i cant play it in a player.

Ok, is it an encrypted video DVD?
Then you need libdvdcss2 - but it depends on your country whether you can use it legally.

ok. i installed lbdvdcss2 and it works with VLC now.
