A1645 Memory Upgrade Problem  Topic is solved

Postby jellyfish » Tue Jun 12, 2007 2:44 pm

I have recently bought 2 x 512Mb memory modules for an Amilo A1645 to replace the 2 factory fitted 256Mb modules. I noticed that in the BIOS and in Windows the memory reported was 384Mb (assuming 128Mb reserved for video memory).

Now I have swapped the modules out for the new ones but it is still reporting only 384Mb :?

A few basics about the system:

WinXP Home Edition SP2
AMI BIOS 1.05c
Mobile AMD Sempron 3300+
2 x 512Mb PC2700 DDR SDRAM (Transcend TS64MSD64V3M)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have already tried searching both here and the F-J forum but with no luck :(

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Can you install Everest and look if both modules are used?

Thanks for the suggestion, I have now sorted the problem :)

I was using an old copy of Aida32 for my system information and this was telling me two different things. In one section it said only one module was being used but in another it reported that both slots were in use :?

Installed Everest and with it showing conclusively that only one module was being used I opened the chassis back up to double check the installation and found a couple of pins at the very end of one of them not located fully.

So the problem was the user in the end! :D
