Alienware m5700 applied the wrong bios update

Postby Orbitrix » Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:05 pm

so basically im an idiot and applied the wrong bios update to my m5700 Laptop... i used the latest bios for the m5750 on accident

everything still works fine, the computer boots, its detects everything, EXCEPT for the volume control knob for my sound card

i tried flashing back to the correct Bios for my system and i get the following error:

Error: BIOS does not support AFU

is there anything at all i can do at this point? any jumpers i can trigger to reset the original BIOS?

is there a trick to getting around this error message and forcing the bios to flash normally?

I read that the AMI bios flashing utility performs some check on what kind of Bios ur computer booted from, and if its not something it likes, it prevents you from flashing with this error message.

any suggestions would be helpful.. ultimately i guess i can live w/o being able to use my volume knob as long as everything else works fine, but i would like to get this resolved

   please help!

You're lucky then ;-)

No.

Maybe there is a parameter for this tool to skip the check? Did you search for something like this?
