M3438G Performs poorly in 3D - guides followed, no progress.

Hi there.

For a while, I've been wondering about my low fps in World of Warcraft until I grew tired of it and decided to reinstall my entire laptop in hope of solving the bad performance.

I use my own Win XP Pro 32Bit installation with the drivers for the raid devide integrated with nLite. This works just fine and I got the laptop up and running in no time. I noticed that the gfx drivers from the fujitsu-siemens was from 2005 and started to find a way to get these updated. I stubled across www.laptopvideo2go.com from where I've downloaded the latest driver I could find for Win XP 32Bit with support for 6800 cards listed in the description - I believe the driver is 160.xx.

I eagerly ran World of Warcraft and expected a huge boost in performance... But no. The game seems to be stuck at 14-19 fps no matter what. Disappointed by my progress I started to google around. I stumbled across some guides from notebookforum.com and this site which mentioned a bug in the VBIOS. I read the various guides and did as mentioned. To sum up, I've updated all drivers and updated the VBIOS to .60 but still no change in performance.

I'm really disappointed in this. As far as I can see, a lot of people are having problems with their M3438G which makes me a bit embarrased that I didn't do some more research on this model before purchasing it. With that said, I'm generally happy with my laptop but would like to be able to run some games on it once in a while, and would hate to be forced to user drivers from 2005 in order for these to perform "acceptable" since this conflicts with some of the other graphical software I'm using.

Looking forward to hear from you, and hopefully work out an answer.

Yours sincerely

You'll need to update your graphics card bios (6800go)
