Problems with the DVD drive/burner  Topic is solved

Postby Roketeer1 » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:33 pm

Hi,
1.I got an Amilo M7405 and so far had never problems with the DVD drive or so, but lately he failed to read discs of any kind although having power, extracting discs appropriately but not reading them. Also the drive disappeared from the List of devices in the Explorer. I had Deamon tools installed but deleted it and wonder if it is just the lack of an appropriate driver to make the dvd drive correspond with windows again?
2.Where would I be able to encounter the correct drivers?
Thanks a lot
Chris..

You don't need any drivers for the dvd drive.
Are there unknown devices or warnings in your device manager? Try to remove these and reboot.

Maybe you also have to delete UpperFilter/LowerFilter registry keys - see search engines for that.

Ok, i did remove the upper and lower registry keys, but no change so far unfortunately. I used the a tool to remove them, and then even checked it manually to make sure that they werent there anymore.
Still it doesnt work, it has power and everything+extracts and inserts mediums correctly. Got any other idea?
Thanks a lot!!!!

Ok, somehow the Drive reappeared, first i did a system reboot to an earlier date but broke it off, to see what would happen.. the drive reappeared... After having shut down the System and having loaded it up again it was gone for a difference, the windows dvd boots as it is supposed to but the drive wasnt there again.
Then I did a full system restore to an earlier date without interruptions.
Deamon tools was there again and I undid the system restore procedure. Drive gone.. Then i removed the Upper and lower value keys again and rebooted the system... hahahah finally it was there again... Strange things happen in this fully computerized world
Thanks a lot for your help, if we meet once i will for sure invite you for a beer

Unfortunately something i have to ad, the disappearance of the drive remains in parts, meaning after having rebooted the system or inserted a different disc apart from the one that was in the drive after removing the keys, the drive disappears again. Of course i can always remove the keys and reboot but even while being busy with an application it already failed once on me. I am close to formatting and resetting windows. Would that be a possible permanent solution?
Thanks agains
Chris.

Amilo pa 2548 Vista Home Premium: DVD drive reads discs, but when I insert blank DVD (not double-sided - notebook never supported them :-)) it makes a lot of strange noises worrying me, and it never stops - blank DVDs aren't recognized more. No recording software can be used. Looks like it tries to find a track moving head so hard as it can. Year and a few passed, not a lot of discs recorded, and looks that drive became semi-dead.
DVD drive is HL-DT-ST GSA-T20N ATA.

What can you say ?
