Upgraded V2030 from 256Mb to 2Gb but only registering as 1GB

Hi there all,

I have installed 2 x 1Gb of Crutial DDR2 memory into my laptop but it is only showing as 1Gb.

Used Crutial's memory tester on their website and it said i had 2 x 512Mb sticks installed.

Confusing i know!!!

So i contacted Crutial and they said to try upgrading the bios.

So i jumped straight onto Fujitsu's site, downloaded the latest Bios and it states you have to load it to a floppy disk and the run the floppy in dos-mode!

1 BIG PROBLEM THERE!! THE LAPTOP HAS NO FLOPPY DISK DRIVE!!!

Any Ideas?

Cheers Dan

Ignore the readme file, if there is one.
It is an iso file. You have to burn it with e.g. Nero.

Amilo Pro V2030 Memory upgrade

Postby Aleks » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:40 pm

Hi, similar problem with mine, purchased 1Gb memory from Crucial, recognising only 448. Spoke to Crucial, they say BIOS problem, Amilo's graphic card taking up extra memory, update BIOS and it will be ok. Did that, no difference.

Called Fujitsu-Siemens tech support for our of warranty desparate cases, total waste of time and money (60p per minute), they didn't have a clue, suggested I re-seat the memory, no effect. Told them about the graphic card, they say, yes it could be that but there is nothing we can do.

Re burning ISO image, you do need Nero to burn it on CD (make sure you download correct file from the Fujitsu web site, they have 2, one to burn on CD and one to make bootable floppy. Boot from that CD to DOS (read instructions beforehand) and run flash.bat

If anybody knows how to overcome the problem with this memory upgrade, please let me know.

Thanks,

Alex

It is possible that the newest BIOS just can't recognize these 1 GB modules - then there's nothing you can do. But maybe 1 GB modules with another count of ranks works...

Upgrade problem sorted

Crucial (people that I purchased the memory from) replaced the memory with another one, same specs, different density chips and it works ok now, i.e. Amilo is now recognising the whole 1GB. Congratulations to Crucial (replaced memory quickly and postage free), shame to Fujitsu as their tech support was useless and cost me £5 for the premium line call.
