LCD display glitches M1437

Postby aceface » Tue Jul 10, 2007 10:39 am

Hi,

I recently cracked my lcd screen - and have since replaced it with a similar model.

The display is fine apart from random (small) patches of blue/green speckles that seem to flicker on the screen.

By turning up the contrast/brightness - the speckles appear on other parts of the screen.

These don't appear to dead pixels either

Any ideas what might be happening here?

Signal integrity problem.. badly plugged connector or something. Does it go away when you reduce resolution? You could also try to reduce blanking using powerstrip.

Hi Ice, thanks for taking interest in my problem!

I had another look at the lcd last night - had reseated the two connections (inverter and ribbon) but still no difference in display.

I also installed powerstrip and altered my screen's brightness/contrast/gamma to try and hide the artifacts. This was almost successful but there is still some, and playing video makes them appear again!

I'm wondering whether it's because I had to replace my broken lcd with a slightly different model (all compatible apparently)

I had a CLAA154WA02 originally but it's been replaced with the CLAA154WA04 - I have read that numbers should only represent manufacturing dates and nothing drasticly different in technology?

Try to reduce blanking with powerstrip.

right click on the powerstrip tray icon -> displ. prop -> advanced timings

reduce horizontal back porch to 100, vertical to 10 or so.

Hi Ice,

No luck with the settings you suggested :(
There doesn't seem to be any noticable difference.

I have attached a screenshot of the default settings in powerstrip

Only change I have found so far is setting the colours to 256, instead of 32bit high colour

Any suggestions?

What you posted is the deafault setting? That's a bit odd. I need to look up a standard, check something. In the meantime, give horizontal fron porch 10, widt 10 and back 10 a go. I'll try to verify something.

It will only let me alter the settings in increments. The nearest to 10 I get is 8. So I've tried 8 - 8 - 8

Still no joy :(

Strange thing is that the timings you posted are already heavily reduced. Unfortunately I have no detailed VESA timings for 1280 * 800. Closest is 1280 * 960.

Horizontal front/syns/back:96/112/312

Vertical: 1/3/36

Give it a go..; If not: I'm out of ideas ;)
