How to get it working on 11.04 Natty Narwhal

Postby roadrash » Tue Jun 07, 2011 6:03 pm

The latest Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal has lost wifi connection on the LI1718. Its predecessor Maverick meerkat was Ok.
Anyway the good folks over at Ubuntu Launchpad have already released a kernel to correct this.

Here is what to do.

Download this file to your home folder http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/lp710738/linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp710738v201104200928_i386.deb

now open a terminal and type:
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp710738v201104200928_i386.deb

once finished restart PC and wireless should be working.

Update manager will offering you a kernel update as it sees this as a backward step. Make sure when you do future updates you de-select any Kernel upgrades or you will have to do this all over again

Hi

Many thanks indeed for that, it worked fine (had to remove the /lp710738/ which fooled me for a while)!

Sadly I've a further problem - no sound!

Like the wireless, the sound worked fine until I "upgraded" to Natty! Am I being very thick or is there a similar answer?

Failing that, is there an easy way to go back to my previous version (10.xx) which did all I needed perfectly well?

Thanks again

sorry corrected mistake.
never had a problem with sound. Are you sure its not got volume turned right down or muted? What version are you using 32 bit or 16bit?

I have tried Ubuntu 10.10 and it didn't work. You can read above why it didn't. Somehow my dad's amilo just doesn't like Linux. :P I know that it works for many other same kind of amilos.

Check your bios.

1. Press F2 at boot screen
2. Go to ADVANCED menu
3. Check that this setting is DEFAULT WIRELESS SETTING [Enabled]
if not change it and exit saving changes.

There is no option [ENABLED]. Choices are [Disabled] and [Wireless LAN]. Currently it's [Wireless LAN]. BIOS is version V1.9.
