hey this is my first post here, but ive been trying to get my ubuntu working for a while.

today, i upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 , hoping that the wifi and hotkeys would work.

Needless to say, they dont, and i am worried, as an earlier post said they did...

Do i need to do anything to get them to work??

Thanks, i hope you can help me :)

Hi go download this to your home folder http://fscamiloa16xx.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/fsca16xx.sh you might have to right click this link & select "save as"

now open a terminal/shell & type[
chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh
sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

thanks.

have you tested that with 8.10??

i want to know from the person that posted earlier (they said that the wifi and hotkeys work with ubuntu 8.10 beta) how they got it working

1 of the other hotkeys works, which is odd..

thanks, and i will try the http://fscamiloa16xx.googlecode.com/svn ... sca16xx.sh script, but when i tried it on 8.04, it didnt work.

if anyone gets wifi working on 8.10, please let me know, in detail, how you did it

cheers!

Hi! Please resolve this problem with hoy keys for wifi in amilo li 1718 fujitsu siemens computers. I have this pc since 2 years and I have never used atheros wireless AR5006 EG (or AR5007) adaptor with linux (Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Linux Mint, Puppy Linux). Normally I would use my wifi adapter with the new version of Ubuntu (Intrepid Ibex, the 8.10), but also with 7.04 (7.4 feisty) or 7.10 (gutzy) or 8.04 (8.4 hardy) it does't work! Sorry for my english.......

For "Wifi adapter" I mean the default integrated wireless card on my amilo li 1718.

I tried to get this wifi working on 8.10 but..... i coudn't: the wifi still not working.

Has this link (http://code.google.com/p/fscamiloa16xx/) anything about driver for 8.10? Maybe not, but for version < 8.10 yes, it has; and are this last solutions for v. < 8.10 tested?

This script was supposed to work on Ubuntu Intrepid. I just tried it and I couldn't get it to work in Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid either I will contact the person who wrote it to inform him of this so he can sort it. I tried both Ubuntu & Kubuntu Intrepid & I found both of them very buggy anyway & I would suggest sticking to 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron because it works on that no problem. I personally use Linux Mint 5 Elyssa KDE CE myself as its much nicer to use. If you want to get wireless working on Ubuntu 8.04 & linux mint 5 then use this version of the script from here:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roadrash/laptop/fsca16xx.sh

Hello

Well, after two months filled with hopeless instalation of ubuntu 8.04, finally I can write something in this topic = ).

What I achive, as far as now is:

- working sound driver [ Sound driver works just after instalation so, this is not my kung fu = ) ]
- working graphic driver
- working WiFi driver
- successful update to 8.10 version

A few words about graphic driver, Ubuntu 8.04 has build in driver which we should (not) tick on in driver manager. Well I did it, and after this operation ( and reboot ) I get black screen. If you have done the same thing, you should go into recovery mode, and here in prompt type:

Code: Select all
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Ok, we are back in Ubuntu. To get proper graphic driver follow this steps:

1. Go to Synaptic
2. Look for fglrx-control packet
3. Install it
4. Go to terminal ( prompt )
5. Type in sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code: Select all
Section "Device"
   Identifier   "Configured Video Device"
   Option      "VideoOverlay"   "on"
   Option      "OpenGLOverlay"   "off"
   Driver      "fglrx"
EndSection

6. Look for line with word "driver" and change value to "fglrx" [ Section "device " ]
7. If you can't find, type manualy Driver "fglrx"
8. Now download and install envy for ubuntu
Code: Select all
http://albertomilone.com/envyngfaq.html

9. Reboot

I've tried just with envy, but it didn't work, after I edit xorg.conf driver starts working properly. That's all. = )

Wi-fi Driver

My private nightmare = ). I use older version of madwifi
Code: Select all
http://www.sendspace.com/file/3be9fe

Code: Select all
http://rapidshare.com/files/166535051/madwifi-nr-r3366_ar5007.tar.gz

1. Firstly untick the Atheros hardware access layer (HAL) in driver manager [ and reboot ]
2. install build-essential, module-assistant, u can find them in synaptic
3. add to file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist words " blacklist ath5k " and after this add empty line
4. Than u can use this website
Code: Select all
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-ar5007-wireless-with-madwifi-on-ubuntu-804-hardy-heron.html

5. Use code from page [ save as in home directory or wherever ]
Code: Select all
http://fscamiloa16xx.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/fsca16xx.sh

6. reboot
7. Install wicd, u don't have to do this, but it is easier with configuration of wi fi networks.
Code: Select all
http://wicd.sourceforge.net/download.php

8. reboot
9. end = ).

Update to 8.10 works without any tricks

Sorry about my English. I hope my solution will help.

I am nearing the point of suicide here by all the frustration!
Is the only way to fix the wifi problem with 8.10 to first install 8.04, install it using the script and THEN later upgrade to 8.10? seems like yet again that windows will win over a unique and excellent system due to small failure..
if anyone here has gotten it to work in ubuntu/kubuntu 8.10 please help me, im begging on my knees for some guidance, so close to getting this to work!

The latest version of the script does work with ubuntu/kubuntu 8.10. I have ir installed.

download the script here to your home folder: http://fscamiloa16xx.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/fsca16xx.sh
(you might need to right click the link & select "save as" to download it otherwise it might just display as text)

now type:
chmod755 fsca16xx.sh
sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

Also make sure you have the wireless set to start on boot in the bios that way you won't need to keep pressing the button.
