Can my AMILO Xi 1526 be upgraded to GeForce 8M Series

Postby DK AMILO » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:58 pm

Hi,

I have an AMILO Xi 1526 with a nVidia GeForce 7600 Go graphics card with 256MB dedicated video RAM.

Now, can I upgrate mi AMILO to the GeForce 8M Series so I can run DirectX 10 graphics?

If yes, what do I need (type of graphic card)?????

Thanks in advance for your awnser :-)

Hey there.
Well upgrading a laptop with a new gfx chip isn't really possible, although I have heard of some cases, the problem is that a laptop and a desktop is built differently, with a regular desktop computer you have cards, where the chips are on, where as in a laptop the chips are directly on the motherboard, so to answer your question, I really don't know, if Fujitsu Siemens has made a motherboard that fits the Xi 1526 with the Geforce 8xxx chipset, then it ought to be doable, I'd doubt it very much tho

Hi again Nozzy,

Thanks for your awnser 8)

Well, Fujitsu Siemens has made the AMILO Xa 2528 which is fitted with the GeForce 8600M GS graphic card acording to the nVidia web-page. Is this laptop using the same same motherboard layout as the Xi 1526 is using? If so, can the graphic card in this laptop be used as a solution to the upgrade I am aming for?

It isn't a graphics card, it is a graphics chip mounted onto the motherboard. If the motherboard is the same layout as your present board, then the process is swapping the whole motherboard.

I haven't seen images of either board to comments on if the swap would be feasible.

Thanks

Afaik the Xi-series supports MXM. So you can upgrade your graphics - if you can find a MXM card, your BIOS supports it and it doesn't get too hot...

SUPER!!!! The GeForce 7600 Go graphic card in my AMILO 1526 is using the MXM tec. so far so good!
Now, does anyone know if there are any graphic cards on the matked using the nVidia 8 series tec on the MXM card which will beat the GeForce 7600 GO card with 256MB??????

Can you tell me does Amilo Pa2548 support an mxm graphics card, because everest says it has two graphics chips, one onboard gf7xxx, and the 8400M G card, which I want to upgrade to 8600M GT.

Hi
my question is the same...
Xa2528 laptop, i think i have the smallest cpu what can put it on...so
nforce c51 motherboard chipset is integrates an vga chip like 6100, 6150 which is diabled en was put 8600M gs card on it.
I think this made was possible with a mxm support over pci-e card...
the questions are far complex...
For Asus appears an 8600M gt with ddr3 as upgrade. For Dell they change an 8700M gt to 8800M gt sli card!!!
my problems start on technical descriptions: higher card spec more heat, more power needed...
I think on many upgrade possibilitys but where can i find suitable coolers( if silent edition helps much more)...
i find the biggest power source is 120 W it will be enough?
i think on 8700M gt or 8800M Gt sli MXM card! ( when i write this appears on market some new 9xxxM series card newer chips maybe bugfree not like G84M and G86M what i have)
but nowhere see cooler solutions for laptops!!!
I find a Turion x2 Tl-66 2.3 Ghz too, so can change my cpu...can`t play COD4 while i dont have 1,8 ghz on cpu.
Find cheap quimonda memories for my laptop...not problem with these.
Find fine SSD drives, with time for sure will be betters then HDD-s, ven when i will use two on raid 0.

but remain the questions: where i find information from my bios supporting CPU- upgrade??
at laptopvideo2go website i find a program which say i dont have MXM card upgrade possibility, so no upgrade, but i think this is a software thing...as my G86M 8600m GS.
its the best G86M chip ( better runing then 8400M GT) but offcial from Nvidia came the 8600M gs is G84M ( twice ROPs, shaders with soft unlock then i have). SAD!!!
Oh and i need a suitable and higher performance cooling solution. ( not wheighted more than the laptop itself) while am carry every day so...these days have more than 5 kilo!!!

If someone know where i find accurate informations ill Thank You!!

Hi
the theoretical possible isnt always the best...theoretical if u have mxm slot u can...
one big problem is even when u have it on ur desk the mxm card u have to w8...u have to flash ur lapy bios with the new vga bios included version
(this u have to do urself, the manufacturer wont make for u, if im wrong please answere me...)
The 8xxxM series cards can be buyed from east from internet, no one can say for u that it will arrive for u.
Ones i find 8600M gt to 8800M gt...u have to take care about heat produced and isnt shortcut the card with the cooler...and other small things.

And finaly, if u have money buy a new lappy, it will be cheaper (My favorits are LG P310 Tarsia, Camini (1300 respective 1100 euro, sometimes sell with slower vga) and MSI gaming notebooks like GT627 (maybe i mistyped but this around 1100 dollar or euro in europe)).

the hope dies before Chuck Norris...
