Power on problem

Postby fogo78 » Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:19 pm

Hi,

I installed UBUNTU 8.04 in my AMILO Li2727, I installed the driver for wifi (madwifi with acerhk) and now all work fine!
The problem is this:
If I shutdown from UBUNTU, the first time when I restart the pc, it halt after 2-3 seconds before the boot loader; after 3-4 seconds it restart alone and all work fine!
I haven't the problem if I shutdown from vista or if I restart from UBUNTU.

I know that vista power off the wifi before the shutdown so I tried to power off wifi from UBUNTU before the shutdown but this isn't the solution!

Maybe is bios problem?

Have you any idea?

Thank you!

Can you see errors in your log files?

Now I compiled the DSDT table and I have my dsdt.aml so ubuntu use my dsdt. Before I had this error

ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... error, file /DSDT.aml not found

In the code of dsdt there is:

Code: Select all
            Store (0x07D0, OSYS)
            If (CondRefOf (_OSI, Local0))
            {
                If (_OSI ("Linux"))
                {
                    Store (0x01, LINX)
                }

                If (_OSI ("Windows 2001"))
                {
                    Store (0x07D1, OSYS)
                }

                If (_OSI ("Windows 2001 SP1"))
                {
                    Store (0x07D1, OSYS)
                }

                If (_OSI ("Windows 2001 SP2"))
                {
                    Store (0x07D2, OSYS)
                }

                If (_OSI ("Windows 2006"))
                {
                    Store (0x07D6, OSYS)
                }
            }

May be the problem is here but I don't find documentation!

Thank you!

dmesg looks good. Did you check messages and faillog? Please don't post the whole file.
The other code snippet doesn't mean much.

Have you tried another Ubuntu version (7.10 or 8.10) or another distribution?

Which files I must check exactly?

I tried only ubuntu 8.04.

The problem is before the boot loader so I think is a bios problem!

As I said, /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog might be interesting.

But if grub has a problem you won't see anything in the log files. Please edit /boot/grub/menu.lst go to the boot options and remove the parameters quiet and splash from the first kernel line.
Then shut down your notebook, boot again and watch the messages on the screen for problems.

I checked this files but in my opinion there aren't error messages

I already done this but I saw only the DSDT error!

Grub haven't problem it work fine, my pc power off before the boot loader star. I tried also lilo and it work fine too but it didn't solve my problem.

Ok, so I think that your problem occurs while shutting down, not while booting.
I guess the problem will disappear if you remove acpi and/or apic from the kernel parameters. Of course this is no solution but it might be a hint.

I tried all the option that you can find here http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/acpi/debug.php but without result!

But I saw only now that have this error at shutdown... are they important?

It seems like there is no connection between dbus and your network driver. So either something went wrong during the network installation or dbus is not running, at least not when the network adapter should be shut down.

Please check if dbus is running:
Code: Select all
ps ax | grep dbus

If it does, maybe reinstalling your network adapter helps.

I solved Network Manager error (whit reinstall) but I have still the first problem (the pc power off at start).

I suspected this because when I restarted I had the same NM error but not the problem in object!

Now I haven't other ideas :(

Me too.
I would try to reinstall Ubuntu. Maybe something went wrong during the first installation. And I would try another version. Preferably 8.10, but 7.10 is also an option.
